Praha February, 2001
If I could live anywhere in Europe and still make a good income, it would be Praha. Old country grace and modern convenience. The people are nice too. |
This is one of those Heather Art photos. This is a platz off the St. Charles bridge. |
It seemed like a good idea at the time. This is Patrick on the bench of the platz above and then him waving. Got to liven up the sight seeing somehow. |
You can't tell from this picture but this woman, standing on the St. Charles bridge, has blue hair. |
Here you see the castle on the hill. It looks far away but is easy to walk. That's the St. Charles bridge in the foreground. |
See it's a long castle. |
The detail of church's in Europe is breathtaking. This is a this is the bottom side of a balcony. |
Just your everyday, average totally beautiful moment in the Castle church. Colour through the stained glass. |
This is a church on the main square in town. When I was looking at it from the front, I really wanted to be a Vampire who could fly up and see the detail closely. It almost looks like silver from the distance. Below we have my attempt at art shots. Didn't get the light like I could see it in person though. |

This is back up at the Castle church. Your standard beautiful gothic. |
Breathtaking stained glass. Ho hum. |
Down below the Castle church you can see some of the old tombs of various monarch's and noblemen. Though honestly, after a few times, it gets sort of annoying. |
This is a view back into town (other side of the river from the Castle). All the buildings are really wonderful though they were suppose to have had the crap bombed out of them in the war(s). |
I think that is Patrick. Maybe it's me. This is one of the side streets as you climb up to the Castle. |
Look closely at the sticker in the center of the door (between second and third rod). It is a gun with a cross through it. Basically you are not allowed to take guns into the post office in the Czech Republic. Good to know. |
We had lunch here twice, right on the main square. You can see the Astronomical clock from the front door (tables outside in Summer). The food is wonderful and can be cheap if you don't get caught by the excessive price of 'snacks' (don't eat the bread or rolls if they drop them on your table) |
This is a gargoyle on the tower as you enter the St. Charles bridge from the city side. As you know, I like Gargoyles. |
This is tower the Gargoyle is on. How about we see it from another angle? |
See, another angle. |
This is the ornament, for lack of a better word, over the tomb of St. Nepomuk. He was a priest that refused to lie for the noblemen to have their way. He was summarily extinguished for this, by being thrown off the St. Charles into the Vltava, a tributary of the Elbe. They found his body and buried him. For some reason they dug him up years later and his tongue, they say, was still fresh. Blessed, obviously, because he refused to lie. So they preserved it, the tongue, and Patrick became obsessed with seeing it. |
Can you see it in
there at the bottom of the crucifix? Looks like a
long lump of putty actually. |
This is the tomb from a distance. Pretty cool though I would rather the Catholic church spend it's money on feeding and clothing the poor. |

The BEST sushi in all of Europe! |
