Shoe Page

i am the founding member of the imelda club at corvallis factory. to join the imelda club, you must have one style of shoe in more than 2 colours or more than 50 pairs of shoes. i qualify for both. and yes, it is sort of embarrassing.

Men in My Life

Welcome to
The Men in My Life!

Get your mind out of the
gutter. It’s just my flamboyant way of showing off my male
friends. They are people worth knowing too!

They are listed in the order I took or received the picture.
I’ve listed whether they are available to date or not. If
you are interested, drop me a mail and I’ll set something
up!

And here he is,
my man! Here you see Patrick Sherman Owens being
typically Patrick in two different contexts. First,
on the left, at the local electronics stuff store
getting a few “necessities”. And on the right, at
our local Tony and Guy’s getting his hair done (‘Of
course I’m a natural blonde!’)

This is Siva, Tax IT dude extraordinaire,
at his 29th b-day party in the lovely UK! Seems like a sensible
party, right?

This is Siva, Tax IT dude extraordinaire,
at his 29th b-day party in India! Seems like a a rockin’, kick-ass
party, hey? Why on earth would anyone party anywhere else? (ok,
it isn’t actually his b-day party but i thought it was funny)

‘Hey,
is it ok if I eat those chips?’ (John, the
temporary roommate…we do like him
though)

Is this dude cool, or what?

Norbert is about the coolest nerd in management I
know. A rebel all the way. He is my ‘socially
abused as a kid only to become WAY cooler than the
jocks’ kin. I wish I could take him and his awesome
wife Monica back to the States with me.

This is him. My
main Latte man, Dominik Moarefi. In fact the cafe
is called Dominik’s Segafredo. He makes a great
Latte. Actually the best we have found in
Stuttgart. Segafredo rocks. The girl who works in
the morning is super nice too. I gave her a
chocolate chip cookie one morning and she said she
would make me some Spaghetti Bolognese. Anyhow, we
really appreciate the pleasant buzzed status
Dominik keeps us at. We only wish he were open
later and on Sundays. Oh well.
Here we have
Raj. Raj was a severally underpaid intern at HP.
His first desk was in a “converted” trash area. He
recently completed his internship and has gone back
to Canada to look for a real job. Um, Raj, real
job…Canada…hey? But seriously, Raj is a very
cool guy even if this picture is entitled “Raj the
Commie”. He is also available to date and I am sure
would be willing to relocate out of Canada to be
with you. He wears Hugo Boss suits sometimes
too.
This is Marco
Bodio. He was in my last workgroup. As you can see
he really appreciates my cookies (there is a
Tupperware container of them in front of him.) He
is a very cool guy and is excellent boyfriend
material (except he’s taken).
This is Oliver
Schwieckhardt. He was lucky enough to be my project
manager on LDMP. Thanks for not killing me,
Oliver.

Married with a
lovely wife and two wonderful children. Better him
than me.

This is Heinz
Winkel. We have a work relationship that would
probably get us in trouble in the US. Of course it
is strictly business. Anyhow, he is looking VERY
German today in his leather vest.

Married, with a
lovely wife he has never bothered to introduce me
to and “the greatest child ever”. (I think Oliver
may disagree with you on that one Heinz)

This is Stefan
Guertler. What can I say about Stefan? He would
make great boyfriend material EXCEPT for his habit
of arguing about bands. I guess some girls could
over look that. I use to sit next to him and he
misses me harassing him. Here you go
Stefan!

Currently
available unless he is hiding something from me. In
which case, I will smack him.

Here we have
Mario Palmer also known as The Angry German. The
reason this picture is fuzzy is he is so angry he
shakes.

Why is he so
angry you ask? Because he’s from Dunkel Deutschland
(mail me if you want to know what that means)!
Being that he has been forced into the light of the
West, he is a bit bitter at the loss of his great
Socialist State. By the way, he knows more about
American gov’t than most Americans.

He recently
purchased a home with his girl friend (thus
obviously unavailable). Remember Mario, if you were
still in Dunkel-land you couldn’t own that lovely
home!

This is Bill
Clark. He use to be my coworker but has recently
returned to the lovely state of Idaho, in the US
with his wife Sheryl. Very nice people who always
came to our parties though didn’t stay long. Bill
was not an early morning person, just like me. That
was cool. He helped me a lot when I moved to IT and
I appreciated it.
Here we have
Emmanuel last name French and I can’t pronounce it
so like hell I will be able to spell it. I should
work on that. He is in my workgroup as well but
looks different than Bill above for one big reason,
he just got his new Audi TT.

Update:
Emmanuel got ride of the TT because it was a tad
expensive and his new girlfriend can kick your ass
because she studies Tae Kwon Do, so don’t mess with
the French dude.

Hi Matthias!
His last name is Michael. Confusing huh? I witness
a number of visiting Americans call his Michael. I
assume this is because they recognize it as a first
name and are confused by Matthias. How typically
American.

Isn’t this a
great picture of him? I just walked up and he was
ready for it. I told him he could have a copy if he
wanted to change the picture on his badge. But you
know what? That is a great picture too. Naturally
photogenic. Don’t know about status. Will
update.

This is Scott
Faude. He use to be in my “extended
workgroup”.

In my
opinion, and a number of other ladies in the
department, Scott is the cutest guy we’ve got. But
now he is leaving to go work for his dad. Bummer.
Also, Scott is a Mutt. His Dad is German, his Mom
is American, his Grandfather is Spanish and his
Grandmother is Irish. I think maybe when I first
said he was a Mutt he might of been offended. I
hope not though because I think it is very cool to
be so diverse. My parents are just Americans,
boring!

He has a French
girlfriend who is a midwife but he doesn’t get up
with her in the middle of the night when she gets
called. Oh well. At least he is cute.

Hair Content

Long live pink hair!

OK,
to be honest, there was purple hair inbetween the red
below and the red to the side. No pictures though. Sorry
about that…

Sure
I loved my last hair do, but you know me. Can’t stay
the same. Have to try something else. Something RED
HOT!

The picture
really doesn’t do it justice. It is just a brilliant
colour. Hair styling will commence once the colour is
set.

I LOVE this hair. Soon I will be able to wear it in pigtails too.

Can you believe I have brown hair? With just a bit of pink and bright red to go along with it. Subtle (for me) but still bright.

Working
my way back to a bob, think the hair is dead though.
Have to start over next time. Back to the pixie.

This
is a bit more punk rock than I normally like to go,
but it is vibrant colour for summer…

Pretty,
pretty purple! Kate kicked butt this time. Lots of purple
that I am super happy with and is very popular. A brilliantly
glowing colour…

(see don’t need
such a large picture since the purple just screams in
the sun)

Here we have my Care
Bear Wish Bear blue! It really was a fabu colour, but
I just didn’t have anything I could wear with it…on
not a lot. Normally, this would be a joyous moment,
but we all know I don’t shop like I use to anymore…

Per
usual, I lost another cutter, but Christof
(did I spell that right?) has stepped up
to the plate and done a spectacular job.
He has a thing (he andd Figen the
colourist, that is) for shapes. This time
a crown! I’m the Princess!

The front
it important too…

And, of
course, you have to have the man
himself…

Mohawk’s
are cool but high maintenance and rather,
um, butch. I like to do cute better. So
back to the salon. Toby was completely
understanding.

Well
then, Juergen left me. Yep, he just up and
moved to Muenchen without even saying
anything! Bastard! How could he?! I was
the best customer a Friseur could have!
Anyhow, I am now happily seeing Toby
(picture coming soon). He helped me cut
most of my hair off and go Mohawk for the
first time. It is a challenging hair cut
but I’m up for it. I feel a bit butch
though.

Just
Phillip, Figen and I hanging out and bein’
cool.

We call
this the Spiderman Edition. Juergen is
just SO
brilliant.

I think
this do is better without glasses
actually. Too bad I can’t see
anything.

From
the rightfrom
the left

Cool, eh?
(see Henry Rollins in the
background?)

Juergen
is going through a line phase. Cool, hey?
Got Elvis on my shoulder too.

Patrick
and Heather have free time on their hands,
so what do they do? Put Heather’s hair in
dozens of pig tails!

This is Juergen my
cutter
6.
He is super brilliant. He is sporting a growing
mohawk type look. Use to have sort of a shag but
got one of the new ‘strip of hair’ cuts from last
Spring’s Tony & Guy line. Two other guys in the
salon had cuts from that series too. Very cool. But
of course now he deals with the outgrowth. How to
take him home with me???

Vera the
colourist. She left the business but it wasn’t my
fault.

Patrick and I
coloured this ourselves. I have learned the secret
to long lasting extremely coloured hair, don’t wash
it very much. Though the colour has faded, it has
stuck well because I only use shampoo twice a week.
I do wet it everyday, so just don’t stand too
close.

Juergen calls this
“you cut it yourself”. It is supposed to look like
I randomly snipped pieces. He also referenced the
musical “cats” when referring to the two pointy
parts. Works for me. Next week I am having it dyed
pink to match the dress I am wearing to Brett’s
wedding. So check back. (yes I realize my skin
looks like hell, I am becoming a regular at the
dermatologist.

Matthias did an
amazing job hand painting the red in the blond
streaks I had left over from the Leopard spots.
Some of the tips even fade to blonde. This was the
plan and beautifully executed.

And this, my
friends, is Matthias, my colorist from Tony and Guy
here in Stuttgart.

Being that I am
sick and tired of my colorists leaving me (I’m
starting to take it personally) we made a deal
today that I won’t leave Stuttgart until he does.
Wait a minute, that doesn’t work?

This
is a full length picture of me on my first day with
Leopard Spots. Notice the J. Crew sweater, Gap
Khakis and Addidas trainers.

Punk
and Prep!

Obliterating the
social barriers, one hairdo at a
time!

For whatever
reason, I am able to take over the shoulder shots
without a dorky smile. At least I think
so.

A closer look at
Joerg’s Leopard Spots.

This is the first
colour I got after the famous “let’s cut all your
hair off” incident.

The people of
Chico, CA loved it (though I got it done in
Germany). My mom didn’t like the off-center stripe
(trust me).

The slippers are a
pre-cursor to the Leopard Spotted hair.

And this is
Vince! Cool huh?

With Sabine as my
translator…Joerg made me go from
this…

…to this! In
Stuttgart

And once upon
a time, long long ago, I was still a hair freak…
Santa Barbara like 1995?

despair

i am trying really hard to be positive. it has been really hard lately. clinical seems like a disaster every single day. i always get something wrong (nothing deadly). why can’t my teachers say something nice once in a while? i did pass my nutrition assignment. i was slightly worried about that. got an 81 (which is a C) but that is TOTALLY fine. so i guess that is a good thing, though i realize that sounds funny.

got a copy of my health ins bill today. i am attempting the last step in signing up for my health care credit. but it looks like the document i got from blue shield/blue cross doesn’t have the data i need. AND they don’t have a document that does. i’ll have to call the IRS tomorrow to see whether this will suffice or what can be done. kinda funny (in a bad way) that i get this close and get stuck in the middle between two massive companies.

today i doubted whether i could finish this program. sounds odd, but it is a temperament thing. i am very uncomfortable “bugging” my clients. the other staff just gets it done. but i am very hesitant. and that seems to equate to failure. on my assignments, i get excellent grades on the analytical stuff. but the practical stuff, not so much. is this going to work? if i finish the program will i be good enough to be a real nurse? or will i know just enough to be dangerous? i am really enjoying what i am learning. it is fascinating and amazing. but is it right for me? am i right for it? this is different than my project in germany. my fear there was missing something so other people failed because my error. this is different. this is my teachers saying to me “heather, you just aren’t right”. i am sure i can pass the tests. but nursing isn’t just tests. it isn’t even mostly tests. will i be successful?

i would really like a partner right now. i would like someone i can come home to and share all my fears and cry on their shoulder, have them console me (maybe review some flash cards) and then enjoy the evening with. enjoy the evening knowing they love and support me. that they can sympathize with my struggles without taking them on, enabling them to be strong for me. it seems that patrick was thinking those things (especially during that project) but didn’t really say anything. andreas has said he can’t hear my bad without taking it on. and then that brings him down. third times a charm? i’d like someone that would love me no matter what. who would hug me and then make me dinner (which can simply be putting the organic tv dinner into the microwave) i’ve tried to carry people when they were down, why won’t anyone offer me the same? is it not reasonable to want that? isn’t really that hard? maybe it is and it is just a talent i have.

both here and there

2011-02-23
good news: today, i got my approval for the high risk insurance pool. the fat lady hasn’t EXACTLY sung, as i still need to set-up my payments through the IRS AND i have no idea whether my Drs are on the plan or not (you couldn’t look that up during application since this is a last resort program anyway). but at least i know i have insurance in case something catastrophic happens. also, something REALLY good happened to my best friend. i don’t want to go into details, but it was seriously awesome. she also got to see “camper van beethoven” last weekend. and they played “take the skinheads bowling” even. lastly, i asked paul from “an engineer’s guide to cats” out via FB (though he lives in wichita). i figured, what the heck. though it felt weird asking a vaguely famous person, maybe they don’t get asked out that much, cause people think they get asked out too much. turns out he just started dating someone, but he was impressed with my “attitude. nothing ventured, nothing gained”. he didn’t mention my cats names though. i find my cats names impressive. it was a fun thing to do, at least.

bad things: i got totally lost during the acid-base lecture today. she even confused me on electrolytes a bit. i thought i had conquered those. it is too bad that the lecture went as it did, being that i felt so good after yesterday’s simulation. another bad thing is how next week is going to suck. i have to do my nutritional assignment, my lab values write-up and pass meeds in clinical. i also have a test in decision making (electrolytes and acid-base), plus a test in legal/ethical. crazy stuff. i am going to study my brains out this weekend for the two tests so i can focus on my clinical paperwork on monday/tuesday.

i guess another good thing that happened was some of my classmates gave me a “cheer you up” card today. they had heard about all the things that went wrong last week. i am not my perky self. being i am usually a very perky person, people tend to notice when i am blue. so my clinical buddies bought me a card. it felt sort of weird as i don’t really know some of them. like they got the card passed to them so they had a write something. but all the comments were really nice. so it felt good. nursing students are generally pretty awesome.
